Timing Belt: What is It And Why is It Important?

The timing belt on your vehicle is likely more important than you give it credit for. What people don't realize is that the timing belt makes sure that the relationship between the crankshaft and the camshaft remains constant and in sync for what is required of both of them.

Establishing the timing just right means that the valves in the vehicle can operate how they are intended to, and that allows the vehicle to move. A timing belt that is off-kilter or out of sync will mean a vehicle that doesn't work as well. There is nothing worse than a vehicle that isn't doing all that it is supposed to for you. Given this, it is mission-critical that timing belts are replaced when they are supposed to be and that we all understand what they are and how they work. Check-in on yours when your vehicle hits about 100,000 miles or so.
